Little Paper Theater

About the Project

The Little Theatre Paper is a simple and funny way of storytelling in the school, in the library or at home, using a wooden stage and illustrated sheets. It is inspired by a Japanese tradition called Kamishibai, which means “paper drama”.

It originated in Buddhist temples of Japan in the twelfth century and remained a popular narrative form for several centuries until it decreased with the advent of television. Recently, however, it has been revived in libraries and schools and many Japanese storytellers around the world have adopted this unique form of storytelling accompanied by sheets that slide into the small theater.

Ekaré Sur, an editorial firm located in Chile, has entrusted us with the design and product development of its own version of Kamishibai. We have produced two editions: one of them fully assembled in our workshop in Barcelona; the other, delivered in parts to be assembled at the headquarters of Ekaré in Chile.
