3D topographic model for Metropolis Barcelona Exhibition

About the Project

Metropolis Barcelona is an exhibition that reflects the past, present and future of Greater Barcelona.

The show, hosted by the Design Hub Barcelona DHUB, is part of the preparatory work of the Metropolitan Urban Master Plan (PDU) and aims to provide a new perspective on the changes that the metropolitan area has recorded since the introduction of the General Metropolitan Plan (1976 ) and at the same time, provide a basis for public debate. Metropolis Barcelona brings a great display of photographic, audiovisual and cartographic material that is rigorously new.

For the introductory section of the exhibition, we developed a topographical model based on 3D map files of greater Barcelona for a videomapping* projection.

This piece of 3 m x 2 m displays the topographic profile of the city of Barcelona in detail and splendor. It is made by CNC milling polyurethane foam and coated with an special finishing similar to “plaster”, seeking a sculptural finish.
